A Day in the Life of a College Student: Tina

Tina Tipby Tina Tip, one of our spring student bloggers. A big congrats to Tina (pictured, below right) on graduating from Brookhaven this semester!

Just as the thumbprints on our hands are unique, so are my days! Yes, I may have a structured class schedule, but my days consist of mostly mystery. Strangely, I like it that way.

I used to be a fan of being predictable; predictability brought stability that I could hold, embrace and nurture. However, life often throws curveballs at you and you must learn to adapt. The following is a glimpse of a day in my life. Enjoy!

A Day in My Life

7 a.m. –  Alarm goes off. It’s Monday morning. I have a technical writing class on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays this spring semester. I bet you can guess that I don’t wake up feeling like P. Diddy because I am just wishing for more face time with my pillow. Who doesn’t love extended time with their pillow, right!? One more thing….I still probably haven’t gotten out of bed.

7:10 a.m. –  Okay, okay, I’m up, I AM UP! I shower, eat breakfast (unfortunately, I am kidding) and meet Paula at the car! Paula is my sister who I take to school every morning.

9 a.m. – Professor Ball is lecturing about specific technical documents that we should know about. Subjects could range from how to create an effective resume to a personal story about how her husband convinced her to marry him. The class is relatively early for me, but she is a joy!

10:05 a.m. – Class is done. I drive to Brookhaven College, coming from Richland College. My astronomy class starts at noon, so I have plenty of time to safely arrive at Brookhaven, nap in my car and ponder the green Brookhaven campus.

12 p.m. – Professor Sidwha begins lecture in a bit; students talk amongst themselves. I typically sit by my friends Ammy and Karen. I carefully set down my drink of choice for the day, a Starbucks mocha or green tea, while I grab my materials. Finally, lecture begins and what we begin to learn is out of this world, literally.

2:50 p.m. – Lab just ended. I bid farewell to my classmates and professors prior to making way to my shiny, black car. I then drive to work. I’m an office assistant for an independent cleaning company.

6 p.m. – It’s been an hour since “closing time,” but my coworkers and I are still there working away at client calls, un-scanned documents, un-shredded documents and other important office duties.

6:30 p.m. – I am home. Time to start on homework. Realistically speaking, it’s time to nap. I will wake up in about three hours or so; then comes time to get to work!

11:30 p.m. – I typically finish my homework for the night around this time. I then shower, Netflix (yes, I utilize this term as a verb) and then head to bed.

Just as I mentioned earlier, every day is unique. Every day is trouble. Every day is beautiful. However, the unpredictable nature of my daily living keeps me on my toes and excited. What’s fun about predictability?
