Our Colleges Have Summer Camps for Your Kids


happy campersAre you looking for camps and classes for your kids this summer? Check out programs at the colleges of DCCCD. Our programs are perfect for parents who want their children to enjoy educational summertime fun.

Brookhaven College

Summer camp at Brookhaven College includes courses designed to entertain and teach young people  ages 7 to 17. Classes include Super Flights (the mysteries of flight), Super Hero Cartooning, Mexican folk art, 3-D cool creations, watercolor and acrylic painting, interactive storytelling, game environment design, animation, comic graphics, fun with chocolate, cooking, cake decorating, creative writing, fashion and sewing, jewelry making, leadership development, Photoshop, printmaking, SAT/ACT preparation, physics, forensics and instant film, to name a few. Ages vary, based on course content.

Cedar Valley College

Youngsters at Cedar Valley College will stay in shape during summer athletic camps this year, scheduled in June and July. Basketball camp for children ages 8 to 12 will be offered twice: June 16-20 or June 23-27. An athletic speed, strength and conditioning clinic taught by former NFL cornerback Rod Jones will be offered seven times for youths ages 13 to 17: June 16-19, June 23-26, June 30–July 3, July 7-10, July 14-17, July 21-24 and July 28-31. Soccer skills camp for children ages 8 to 12 is scheduled July 21-25, and a boys’ basketball, two-day intensive clinic will be offered on July 1 and 2. Space is limited for all camps.

Cedar Valley College is located at 303 N. Dallas Ave. in Lancaster.

Eastfield College

Youngsters at Eastfield College can spend the summer rockin’ their socks off, swimming circles around their friends or seeing how the world adds up through mathematics in June and July. Classes are offered in guitar and piano. Summer camps for kids ages 7 to 13 include: “Rockin’ the Arts” art and drama camp, June 9-13; and “Superheroes and Villains” art and drama camp, June 23-28 (with a session that same week for kids ages 4 to 6). An advanced acting camp for students ages 14 to 18 is scheduled June 16-20, and a one-day interior faux painting class for all ages is scheduled on June 7 and again on June 14.

Mountain View College

FUNtastic is the word at Mountain View College for first-graders through high school students. Parents can enroll their children in reading/writing/math camps to keep their skill sharp during the summer months. Other classes include graffiti art, cooking, ballet, Earth Camp, gaming applications (like app adventures and code breakers), Lego learning (films and stop-action, video games and Minecraft designers), guitar, gymnastics, basketball drills and skills camp, football skills camp, martial arts, sports enrichment camp, tennis, robotics, swimming and more.

North Lake College

Summer camps rule at North Lake College! Designed for youngsters ages 6 to 9 or 6 to 12, these camps make learning fun: Apprentice Robotics; Around the World; Art in Nature Adventure; Crazy Action Contraptions; Impossible Search and Rescue; Robots on the Rampage; and sports and activities fitness camps. Classes in guitar, piano, art, Spanish, French, Japanese and American Sign Language also are offered for students ages 12 to 17.

Richland College

High-tech comes to summer camps at Richland College this year! Two STEM summer camps for kids will be offered in partnership with the University of Texas at Dallas in programming and design; it features several levels: Level 1 (third grade and up) – animations using Scratch, animations using Logo and advanced Scratch; Level 2 (level 1 graduates and 6th grade) – enjoyable programming using JavaScript: and Level 3 (level 2 graduates) – introduction to programming in Java and introduction to programming in C++. In Robots-4-U camp, youngsters ages 7 to 17 will learn about science, problem solving, teamwork and technological skills as they build robots and gain hands-on experience. Five sessions will be offered, and class sizes are limited.

Note

Dallas TexPREP – the Texas Pre-freshman Engineering Program – is hosted by colleges in the DCCCD system, based on the year in which a student is enrolled. The seven-week program provides students who have demonstrated their mathematical ability through academic performance and teacher/counselor recommendations with an opportunity to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics throughout Dallas. Field trips, guest speakers and activities are part of the curriculum. The program begins this year on June 16. All seven of DCCCD’s colleges will host TexPREP Year 1 students.
