Community Service Pays Off for Brookhaven College

Brookhaven College has made the honor roll — the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, that is.

The roll recognizes colleges and universities for their commitment to volunteering, service learning and civic engagement. Brookhaven is the only Texas community college to receive the honor this year.

In 2008, Brookhaven College was one of only six institutions to be awarded the Presidential Award. That award is the highest federal recognition a college or university can get for its commitment to community service.  It is one of only three community colleges to earn the Presidential Award.

“Communities are strengthened when we all come together, and we are encouraged that these institutions and their students have made service a priority,” U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in a statement.
